The current “international war on terrorism” has created a more uncertain world than that of just a few years ago. The resulting global security environment has made new and challenging demands on Defence and Security technologies to counter the spread of violence and to protect large and diverse populations in many countries without seriously infringing individual rights.
As a result, governments in these countries have given increased attention to Defence and Security capabilities with appropriate budgets to support them. Long-term prospects are positive because requirements for the restructuring, enhancement and extension of these new capabilities will undoubtedly continue to receive high priority for many years to come. Significant business opportunities are, therefore, created for companies that offer advanced products and services responding to new operational requirements for military forces, police forces, elite forces, and emergency response teams.
Companies that take up this challenge must work in a highly-competitive, international marketplace that is complex, sophisticated and ever changing. This leads to mounting costs for Research and Development and the maintenance of production capabilities. To remain competitive, means must be found for offsetting these expenses by increasing market share. The esoteric nature of off-shore business, however, is not one with which many companies are familiar.
